The Tropics start another week with a four game series vs the Long Beach Surfers at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium.


Game 1- The Long Beach Surfers continue to play spoiler against the Hawaii Tropics beating the guests with good pitching. Hawaii SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani pitched well again, giving the Tropics a chance, going 7 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and striking out 5 batters. Even with that effort he falls to 5-1 with a 4.64 ERA.

LF Bastiao Fardos was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a run scored.

2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols was 3 for 3 including a walk.


Long Beach wins 3-2.


Game 2- The Surfers hold on to a lead and survive a Tropics comeback attempt to earn Danya Tchekanov his 10th win of the season. Hawaii Starter SP Stephen Taub came up short in his efforts going 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 crushing walks while striking out just 2 batters. Taub falls to 9-8 with a 4.99 ERA.

1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 3 for 4 with a solo homer and 2 doubles, driving in a run and scoring a run.


Long Beach wins 5-4.


Game 3- The Tropics offense awakens with bug games from several key players. Team Captain 1B Ettienne LaFitte got a rare start at first base and he made the best of it. He was 4 for 5 with 3 bombs, 3 runs scored, 7 RBI and his 24th stolen base of the season.

C Ron Shiplack was 3 for 5 with a double, homer, 2 runs and an RBI.

DH Ernest McBride was 4 for 5 with a triple and 4 runs scored.

Manuel Aguilar, Jr. received a rare start in RF and one t 3 for 5 with a double, 2 runs scored and 3 runs driven in.
The Tropics didn’t need much pitching and got just enough with RP Felipe Lopez getting the win with 2 2/3 innings of work. He allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 4 to improve to 6-4 on the season.


Hawaii wins 14-8.


Game 4- The Tropics come back from down 6-3 with 5 runs in the top of the fifth inning and get the much needed win. SP Alaric Wullenweber was awful, getting chased in the bottom of the third. He pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits and stick out 6 batters. He git some help from his friends as the bullpen allowed just 1 run and 5 hits over 6 2/3 innings.

DH Ernest McBride was 2 for 5 with a homer, 2 runs and an RBI.

1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. is still swinging the hot bat going 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 walks and an RBI.

SS Fernando Rodriguez was 1 for 5 with a run, RBI and a stolen base. It was his 50th stolen base of the season.


Hawaii wins 8-5 and split the series.


The Tropics play a two games series vs the Nashville Blue Birds at Les Paul Field.


Game 1- The opener saw the Hawaii Bullpen bail out the starter again. With the score 4-4 in the sixth, CF Doeke Soethout hit a single that scored Fernando Rodriguez to give the Tropics the lead. Hawaii scored 2 more runs late in the game and survived a Blue Bird rally in the bottom of the ninth to take their third straight game.

Soethout was 3 for 4 with a double, run, 2 RBI and a stolen base.

RF Mike Campbell was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles, a run and an RBI.

Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with 3 runs, and an RBI. He stole 4 bases in the game and now sits at 54 for the season.

The bullpen went 4 2/3 innings allowing just 1 run on 2 hits and a walk. Combined they struck out 6.


Hawaii wins 8-7.


Game 2- Hawaii Starter Niccolo Destefani pitches well again but his offense abandons him as Nashville Starter Elliot Buckland gets the job done for the Blue Birds.

Destefani had 8 1/3 IP, 1 run, 4 hits, a walk and 6 Ks.

Buckland had 7 1/3 IP, 1 run, 4 hits, 2 walks and 6 Ks.


Nashville wins 2-1 and split the series.
