The Tropics host the Long Beach Surfers in a four game series at Diamond Head. With 36 games left in the 2042 BBA Season the home team needs to make up a 6 game deficit to over take Pacific Division Leader California.

Game 1- Alaric Wullenweber was his usual dominating self and LF Bastiao Fardos was 5 for 5 (RBI, Run scored and a stolen base).

DH Ernest McBride was 3 for 4 including his 38th homer of the season. He scored 2 runs, drove in 2 runs, walked and stole his 9th base of the season.

Wullenweber went 7 /3 IP gave up 2 runs, 6 hits a walk and struck out 8 batters. He improved to 11-9 with a 4.09 ERA.

Hawaii wind 7-2.

Game 2- The Long Beach Surfers took a season’s worth of frustrations out on the Tropics scoring 7 runs in the top of the third inning and getting some good relief work to set back Hawaii in their quest.

SP Zak Johnson was pounded for 6 runs on 7 hits and a walk over 2 2/3 innings. He struck out 2 batters but he falls to 9-9 with a 4.62 ERA.

C Steffen Peterson was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

SS Leonard Jones was 2 for 4 with a walk.

Long Beach wins 7-4.

Game 3- The Hawaii Tropics were led by two rookies, SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani and CF Doeke Soethout, to a shutout win. Destefani gave up just 3 hits in 7 innings and struck out 7 batters. He ups his record to 5-1 and lowers his ERA to 4.79. Soethout was 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer, his 27th of the year.

RF Mike Campbell was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Campbell is sitting at .339 with 31 homers and 99 RBI for the season.

Game 4- Surfers 3B
Ira Sanchez was 6 for 6 and Long Beach scores 4 runs in extras to topple the Tropics and get a series split in Hawaii.

SP Stephen Taub allowed 4 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out 8 in a no decision.

Doeke Soethout was 2 for 4 with his 28th homer.

DH Ernest McBride was 2 for 5 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Long Beach wins 8-4.

The Tropics head to the mainland to play a three game series with the San Fernando Bears at Chico’s Bail Bonds Field.

Game 1- 1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 4 for 4 with a double, homer, a run and four RBI.

SP Jesus Gonzalez pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 3 and improves to 10-9.

RP Norm McConnell earned his 24th save of the season with a 5 pitch ninth inning.

Hawaii wins 5-2.

Game 2- The Tropics jump out to a 9-2 lead then have to survive the final Bears charge to take the game. After a homer on the first pitch of the game by DH Ettienne LaFitte, LF Jose Camacho fouled off the first pitch then was drilled by the next pitch in the left hip by a 97 mph Bron Cortez fastball. That sparked a bench clearing melee that saw players from both teams throwing punches and kicks at each other. Tropics Manager Kelly Finley threw his cheek full of Skoal at Bears Manager
Abe Colbert. Both players played for the Tropics in the past but never on the same team together. The game resumed after the ejections of Camacho and Cortez with Finley and Colbert remaining in their dugouts to manage their teams. Bastaio Fardos took Camacho’s spot in the lineup and made the Bears pay. Fardos went 3 for 4 with a homer, 3 runs and 3 RBI.

Alaric Wullenweber pitched a little lackadaisically and allowed 5 runs over 6 2/3 innings. He gave up 8 hits and struck out 6 but 3 of those hits were homers. He did pick up the win and is now 12-9.

LaFitte went on for a 1 for 5 night with three runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base.

Hawaii wins 9-8.

Game 3- With both teams warmed up from the previous games activities they combined accounted for 21 runs, 25 hits and 3 errors. Zak Johnson was horrible again going just 2 1/3 innings surrendering 7 runs on 4 hits and 6 walks. He struck out 4. He is now 9-10 with a 4.95 ERA.

Doeke Soethout was 2 for 5 with a 3 run homer, a run scored and 4 RBI. Soethout has hit 29 homers and riven in 83 runs.

Miguel Aguilar, Jr. was 2 for 4 with a 2 run homer, a double, 2 runs and 3 RBI.

Bastaio Fardos was 2 for 5 with a run scored.

San Fernando wins 12-9 and Hawaii wins the series 2-1.
