The Hawaii Tropics host the Vancouver Mounties for a three game series at Diamond Head.


Game 1- SP Stephen Taub was in control of this game but ran out of gas after 6 2/3 innings. Taub allowed just a single run on 4 hits and struck out 7 batters. He improved t0 9-6 with a 4.94 ERA. That win was in question as RP Felipe Lopez came close to coughing up the lead. Lopez allowed 3 runs in 2 hits and a walk in just 1/3 of an inning of work. RP Luis Santiago took the ball from Lopez and shut down the mounties for 1 2/3 innings. RP Adrian Garcia came on to get the last out of the game for his first save of the season.

Taub beats the Mounties

3B Leonard Jones was 1 fr 3 with a two run homer in the fourth inning.

1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 1 for 4 with a solo homer in the second inning.

Backup C Steffen Peterson was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.


Hawaii wind 5-4.


Game 2- The Tropics Offense has been able to take advantage of error and walks recently. They did it again in this game as they took 13 hits, 5 walks and 2 errors and scored 16 runs. Every starting fielder recorded a hit but Leonard Jones. Jones was 0 for 4 with a walk and a run scored. Jones said after the game, “It looks like I’m buying.”

2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols was 2 for 5 with a three run homer, two runs scored and four RBI.

CF Doeke Soethout was 3 for 4 with a double, two homers, four runs, five RBI and a stolen base.

RF Mike Campbell was 2 for 5 with a solo homer, three runs and an RBI.

In a rare start, P Maxime Manceau went 7 innings, surrendered just a single run on five hit s and a walk while striking out a batter. He upped his record to 4-2 with a 4.30 ERA.


Hawaii wins 16-1.


Game 3- Michael Campbell hits a first inning three run homer and the Tropics never look back as Hawaii sweeps the series. Campbell was 2 for 4 with three RBI on the day along with two runs scored.

Baseball, meet Mr. Campbell

SP Jesus Gonzalez took care of business allowing one run on seven hits, walked no one and struck out seven batters. He improves to 8-9 on the season with a 4.15 ERA.


Hawaii wins 5-1 and wins the series 3-0.


The Des Moines Kernels pay a visit to Diamond Head for a two games series with the Tropics.


Game 1- Alaric Wullenweber was roughed up for 5 runs in the fifth inning and Kernels Starter Ernesto Lopez cooled off the hot bats of the Tropics. Lopez had a line of 8 IP, 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 walks and 7 Ks.

Wullenweber was cruising with just a hit allowed and six strikeout through four innings. Then after a strikeout in the fifth the wheels came off and soon he was out of the game. Alaric finished with 4 2/3 IP, 5 runs, 5 hits, a walk, and 7 Ks. He falls to 10-8 with a 4.02 ERA.

LF Bastiao Fardos was 1 for 3 with a solo homer in the first inning, a walk, 2 runs scored and an RBI.


Des Moines wins 5-2.


Game 2- The Kernels turn up the heat on the Tropics and pop three homers in a dismantling of the Hawaii Tropics at Diamond Head.

2B John Nichols was 2 for 4 with a solo homer, a run and two RBI.

DH Ernest McBride has cooled off a bit but was 2 for 3 this game with a solo homer.

SP Zak Johnson pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits a walk and a strikeout. He is now 9-8 with a 4.25 ERA this season.


Des Moines wins 10-3 and sweeps the series 2-0.
