The Hawaii Tropics travel to the Great Northwest for a three game series vs the Seattle Storm at the King County Complex.


Game 1- 1B Ernest McBride (1 for 4) homers again and Zak Johnson and company get the job done on the mound as Hawaii takes the opener.

Johnson pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7. He improves his record to 9-6 with a 4.31 ERA.

RP Luis Santiago had 2 IP and allowed just a hit.

RP Felipe Lopez put an end to his string of relief disasters with 2/3 of inning of work allowing a hit and getting a K.

3B Leonard Jones continues to play well for the injured Gary Allen. Jones was 2 for 4 (2 doubles) a run and two RBIs.

McBride, CF Doeke Soethout (2 for 4) and 1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. (1 for 4) each stole a base.


Hawaii wins 5-3.


Game 2- Wunderkind Alaric Wullenweber dominated the Storm for 8 1/3 innings. He surrendered one run on seven hits and a couple of walks. He struck out 8 in earning his 10th win of the season. He is 10-7 with a 3.87 ERA.

Ernest McBride was 4 for 5 (4 singles) scored two runs and drove in two runs.

RF Mike Campbell had a 3 for 5 day (single, double, 2 run homer) scoring a run and driving in three runs.

Manny Aguilar Jr was 2 for 5 (single, 2 run homer) scored two runs, drove in two runs.
2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols (2 for 3), LF Bastiao Fardos (1 for 4). Leonard Jones (1 for 5) and Doeke Soethout (2 for 5) each stole a base.


Hawaii wins 9-1.


Game 3- The Tropics Offense pounds out 16 hits and score 10 runs to give Rookie Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani a nice cushion, Destefani took that lead and threw strikes for 6 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a coupe of walks. He struck out 6 batters and won his 4th game of the season.

Doeke Soethout was 3 for 4 with his 22nd homer of the season, a 0-1 solo shot to begin the onslaught.

Ernest McBride did his thing again (3 for 5) with a 2 run shot in the fifth.

Mike Campbell was 2 for 5 with his 27th homer in the fourth.

Every Tropics had a hit except for SS Fernando Rodriguez. Rodriguez had to pay up with paying the tab at the end of the night for the entire team.


Hawaii wins 10-5.


Game 4- The Tropics put up their biggest inning of the season sending 14 hitters to plate in the sixth inning, scoring 11 runs on 8 hits (homer, double, 3 walks and 6 singles). The Tropics went from trailing 8-6 to a big 17-8 lead that they never relinquished.

Ernest McBride completed his four game demolition of the Storm going 5 for 6 with 3 singles, a double and a two run homer. He scored four runs and had four RBI. McBride was 13 for 20 in the series with 3 homers, 13 runs scored and 9 RBI. McBride commented after the game, “ We just have to get hot at the right time and we can make some noise.”

Manny Aguilar Jr added to the Storms’s pain going 3 for 6 with a double, two runs and two RBI.

Every starter had a hit this game as SS Fernie Rodriguez was 2 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Rodriguez said, “ Those guys made me pay a $1500 tab last night. It looks like it worked because we all hit this time.”

The Trops celebrate a BIG inning


Hawaii wins 17-8 and sweeps the series.


The Trops return home for a three games series with the Portland Lumberjacks at Diamond Head.


Game 1- Zak Johnson pitched a complete game for the Tropics but the offense was stymied by Portland Starter Flynn “Banshee” Venegas. Venegas allowed just one run over 6 2/3 innings.
Johnson allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 10 batters. Johnson falls to 9-7 with a 4.16 ERA.

Mike Campbell doubled and was driven in on a single off the bat of Jack Nichols in the second inning for the Tropics lone tally.


Portland wins 3-1.


Game 2- Jack Nichols was just 1 for 4 against Lumberjack pitching but the one was a walk off solo homer to spark the Tropics big celebration.

Alaric Wullenweber had 7 IP, allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and no walks while striking out 14 batters.

LF Jose Camacho (1 for 3), C Ron Shiplack and CF Doeke Soethout also homered.

Hawaii wins 4-3.


Game 3- The Tropics turn seven free passes and nine hits, to include three homers into a series win against the Lumberjacks.

Ernest McBride was 3 for 5 (single, double, solo homer) scoring two runs and driving in two. McBride is hitting .310 with 36 homers and 86 RBI.

Leonard Jones was 1 for 3 (solo homer, walk).

Manny Aguilar was 1 for 3 (3 run homer, sac fly).

Niccolo Destefani was roughed up over 3 IP for 5 runs, 6 hits, a walk and 2 Ks.


Hawaii wins 11-8 and win the series 2-1.
