The Tropics return to the island after that short road trip to host the San Fernando Bears in a four game series at Diamond Head.


Game 1- The Tropics score 1 in the seventh and 2 in the eighth to upend the Bears in the series opener.

SP Jesus Gonzalez was solid with 6 IP, 2 runs allowed, 8 hits, a walk and struck out 7 batters. He had a no decision but lowered his ERA to 3.99.

Slumping RP Norm McConnell earned his 20th save of the season walking 1 and striking out 2 in the ninth.

C Ron Shiplack was 2 for 4 (single, double) scored a run and drove in a run.

3B Leonard Jones was 1 for 3 (triple) and scored a run.

LF Jose Camacho was 1 for 2 (double, walk) and a run scored.


Hawaii wins 4-2.


Game 2- The Hawaii Tropics players watch RP Felipe Lopez give up a run in the top of the ninth and waste a good start from SP Stephen Taub. Taub had 7 1/3 IP, allowed 1 run on 7 hits, a walk and struck out 7 Bears. Lopez pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing the one run on 1 hit and a walk while striking out 2 batters.

RF Mike Campbell was the offense going 3 for 4 (single, double, homer) scoring 1 and driving in 1.

San Fernando wins 2-1.


Game 3- Aging veteran Ettienne LaFitte drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eleventh to give the Tropics a boost. LaFitte was 3 for 5 (2 singles, 2 run homer, walk) scoring 2 runs and driving in 3.

1B Ernest McBride was 1 for 5 (2 run homer). McBride has 29 homers on the season.

LF Jose Camacho was 1 for 3 (solo homer). He hit his 7th homer of the season.

CF Doeke Soethout was 1 for 4 (2 run homer) hits his 20th homer this season.

RP Felipe Lopez redeems himself from the Game 2 loss pitching 1 1/3 innings and striking out 2 batters. He earned his 5th win of the season.


Hawaii wins 10-9.


Game 4- The San Fernando Bears come back from down 7-5 scoring 2 in the ninth and 2 more in the tenth to steal another game from the Tropics and earn a series split.

RP Norm McConnell blew another save allowing 2 runs on 2 hits in the bottom of the ninth. He has given up 12 runs in his last 13 1/3 IP. TV cameras caught Manager Kelly Finley throwing the Brawndo cooler down the locker room tunnel as McConnell walked back to the dugout.

SP Zak Johnson had 5 IP, allowed 4 runs on 3 hits and struck out 9.

DH Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 1 for 4 (2 run homer, sac fly) scored 1 and drove in 3.

C Ron Shiplack was 1 for 3 with a 3 run homer.


San Fernando wins 9-7 and split the series.


The Tropics hit the road for a 2 game series with the Louisville Sluggers at the Kentucky Truck Plant Stadium.


Game 1- The Sluggers had an answer for every run that Tropics scored in the opener. Hawaii pulled ahead 2-1 in the top of the fourth but the Sluggers answered with 1 in the bottom of the inning. Hawaii took another short lived lead scoring 1 in the sixth and were answered by Louisville with a 3 spot in the bottom of the inning. Louisville added an insurance run in the seventh to put a cherry on top of this win.

SP Alaric Wullenweber gave up 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits over 5 2/3 innings of work while striking out 7. He falls to 807 with a 3.97 ERA.

Ernest McBride was 2 for 4 (single, solo homer). He now has hit 30 homers this season with 70 RBI.

Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 1 for 3 (solo homer, sac fly) scoring 1 and driving in 2.

Louisville wins 6-3.



Game 2- Louisville shows no mercy in walloping the Tropics at Kentucky Truck Plant Stadium for the series sweep.

RF Mike Campbell was 3 for 4 (3 singles) steel a base and threw out a runner at third for his 11th OF assist this season. Campbell is hitting .333 with 20 homers and 73 RBI.

LF Jose Camacho is hitting well as he was 2 for 3 (single, double, walk) scoring a run and driving in 1.

3B Leonard Jones was 2 for 4 (single, double) and scored a run. He is 7 for 27 since taking over for 3B Gary Allen who is out with plantar fasciitis.


Louisville wins 9-3 and sweeps the series.
