The Tropics host the California Crusaders at Diamond head in a four game series.

Game 1- The Crusaders strike first in the game and the series as the California Offense scores runs in every inning except the third, eighth and ninth. The only answers were two 2 run innings for the Tropics.

SP Luis Torres struggled in 4 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and a walk while striking out 5. He falls to 1-1 with a 6.35 ERA.

RP Felipe Lopez was equally as bad as he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits over 1 inning striking out 2.

C Ron Shiplack was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a run scored.

LF Jose Camacho was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.

CF Doeke Soethout was 2 for 4 with a homer, a run scored and 2 RBI.


California wins 9-4.


Game 2- With the second game tied in the top of the eighth, California CF Po-shin Shi homered to give the Crusaders the lead. The Crusaders would go on to score another run in the eighth and add another insurance run in the ninth.

SP Zach Johnson was pedestrian. He threw 6 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and walked 3 batters while striking out 7.

1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 1 for 3 with a 2 run homer.

CF Doeke Soethout homered again with a solo shot in the third.


California wins 7-4.


Game 3- The Hawaii Tropics score 6 runs in the second inning and cruise to victory.

SS Fernando Rodriguez was 1 for 2 with a 2 run homer and 2 walks.

3B Gary Allen was 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer.

CF Doeke Soethout seems to be heating up again as he was 2 for 3 with a run, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base.

SP Jesus Gonzalez was good, pitching 7 2/3 solid innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits and issued 3 walks. He struck out 6 and improved to 3-6 with a 3.72 ERA this season.


Hawaii wins 6-2.


Game 4- California turns the tables on the Tropics as they score 6 in an inning and take the series.

SP Alaric Wullenweber stumbled as he gave up 7 runs over 4 2/3 innings of work. He labored giving up 12 hits and walked 2 batters. He only struck out 4 as the Crusaders were patient all night.

2BJack “Junkyard” Nichols was 1 fo 3 with a solo homer.

LF Bastiao Fardos was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles, a run and 3 RBI.

CF Doeke Soethout was 2 for 5 with a run scored and a stolen base.


California wins 9-5 and takes the series 3-1.


The Tropics finish the 9 game home stand with a 2 game series with Twin Cities at Diamond Head.


Game 1- 1B Ernesto McBride and 3B Gary Allen homer in the first as the Trops score 4 and double ups the River Monsters in the series opener.

Allen was 2 for 4 with that 2 run homer, a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. He also drew a walk. Allen is hitting .283 with 15 homers and 46 RBI.

RF Mike Campbell was 3 for 4. He scored 2 runs and drove in 1. He stole his 4th base of the season.

SP Stephen Taub was not stellar but got the job done. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 6 and earned his 7th win.
Hawaii wins 8-4.


Game 2- The River Monsters score 5 runs late and upend the Trops in the series finale. Errors didn’t help out Tropic SP Luis Torres as the allowed 5 runs (3 earned) over 6 2/3 innings. He allowed 5 hits and a walk. He did strike out 7 batters.

3B Gary Allen hit is 16th homer of the season going 1 for 4 with 3 RBI.


Twin Cities wins 8-5 and split the series.
