The Tropics continue their road trip with a stop in Omaha for a three game series at Hawks Field.


Game 1- SP Alaric Wullenweber gave up three homers in 3 1.3 innings of work and Omaha 1B Edgardo Diaz was 4 for 4 with a homer, double, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI to lead the Hawks to a 9-4 victory.

Wullenweber allowed 5 runs on 5 hits and struck out 4. He falls to 3-3 and his ERA is 4.70.

RF Mike Campbell was 3 for 5 with a solo homer. He is hitting .290 with 4 bombs and 20 RBI.

LF Jose Camacho was 2 for 4 with a double and a 2 run homer.


Omaha wins 9-4.


Game 2- SP Jim “Bullets” Wilkinson pitched around 2 errors in 7 innings allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and a walk. He struck out 5 in 108 pitches (68 strikes). He improved to 2-3 with a 7.30 ERA.

DH Ernesto McBride was 1 for 3 with a solo homer, 2 walks, 3 runs scored and an RBI.

3B Gary Allen was 3 for 4 with a double, a run and 2 RBI.

RF Mike Campbell was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI.

CF Doeke Soethout continues his hot hand after being called up from AAA. He was 2 for 5 with a runs scored and a stolen base.

Hawaii wins 8-4.


Game 3- The Omaha Hawks have destroyed Tropic Pitching so far this season. This game was no different as Hawks LF Virgil Shafer was 3 for 4 with 2 homers, 3 runs and 4 RBI. Tropics Pitchers struggled to get any one out as the Hawks win 8-2.

SP Jesus Gonzalez gave up 5 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks over 4 2/3 innings while striking out 2 batters. He took the loss and falls to 1-3 with a 2.87 ERA.

LF Bastiao Fardos was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

RF Mike Campbell was also 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Omaha wins 8-2.

Game 4- The Hawaii road woes continue in Omaha. The Tropics score 4 runs in he third inning to take a 4-1 lead. The big hit was a 2-run homer by Rookie CF Doeke Soethout with two outs.
The Hawaii Offense then went back into their slumber until scoring a run in the ninth, falling short 6-5.

SP Zach Johnson was horrible pitching 2 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and issued 2 walks while striking out just 1 hitter. He falls to 2-2 and has a 4.19 ERA.

CF Soethout was 2 for 5 with that homer, a run and 2 RBI.

RF Mike Campbell is still wielding a hot bat as he was 2 for 5 with a run and 3 RBI. He is hitting .322 with 4 homers and 27 RBI.


Omaha wins 6-5 and take the series 3-1.


The Tropics return home for a 2 game series with the on going soap opera of The Chicago Black Sox.


Game 1- Chicago Hitters hit 8 doubles and a homer pounding the Trops into submission.

SP Stephen Taub continue the procession of noisy pitching allowing 6 runs on 7 hits in 3 innings of work. He also walked 2 and struck out just 1. He falls to 2-2 and has an ugly 6.69 ERA.

1B Manuel Aguilar, Jr. was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI.


Chicago wins 10-4.


Game 2- SP Jesus Gonzalez broke the streak of bad starts but the ‘pen let him down as two relievers allow 5 runs total to lose the lead and the game.

Gonzalez allowed just 1 run on a solo homer over 6 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 7 in the no decision.

RP Dominic Lawrence was awful allowing 4 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks over just 2/3 of an inning of work.

CF Doeke Soethout was 3 for 4 with a run. He is hitting .412 with 3 homers and 6 RBI.

SS Fernando Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with a run scored.


Chicago takes the game 6-2 and sweeps the 2 game series.


GM Jim Walker was asked about his team’s recent performance. “What performance? These guys are underachieving.”

Tough stretch for the Tropics, but they’ll bounce back. Too many good players not to!
