The Hawaii Tropics begin their 2042 Season taking a trip to Madison to play a two game series with the Wolves at Shotz Stadium.


Game 1- LF Bastiao Fardos went 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the Hawaii Offense. The Tropics score 1 in the first off of Madison SP Yorikane Miyamoto . The Wolves responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the first off of SP Alaric Wullenweber. Both teams settled in and were tied at 3 going into the bottom of the eighth.

New Tropics Lefty Specialist Ricardo Baez came on in relief of Wullenweber after he had induced a ground out to get the lead off hitter. Left handed hitting CF Declan Hounsell ripped a 1-0 fastball back up the middle for a single. Hounsell advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a ground out. LF Andrew Torres then took a 1-0 fastball and lined it just over the glove of the leaping SS Fernando Rodriguez scoring Hounsell from third.

The Trops went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth as the Wolves took Game 1 4-3.

Wullenweber pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 8 hits and walked 1. He struck out 6 in 104 pitches (65 for strikes) in the no decision.

Fardos was (4-4) had 2 doubles and 2 singles with the 2 runs scored. Fardos added some defense throwing out two runners at third.


Game 2- SS Fernando Rodriguez went 3 for 5 and scored 2 times and DH Ettienne LaFitte hit his first homer of the season as the Tropics score once in the eighth and twice in the ninth to take Game 2 6-3.

Rodriguez (3 -5) had a double, 2 singles and a SB.

LaFitte was 1 for 4 with his first homer and 2 RBI.

SP Jim “Bullets” Wilkinson was masterful going 8 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and a walk. He struck out 5 batters in 104 pitches (68 strikes). He earns his first win of the season with a 3.38 ERA.

RP Norm McConnell earned the save pitching a clean ninth striking out 1.

The Tropics split the opening series 1-1 and will return to Hawaii for the home opener versus the Long Beach Surfers.


The Tropics return home for a three game series with the Long Beach Surfers at the Hawai’i Le’ahi Diamond Head Baseball Park.


Game 1- The Tropics jump out to a quick 1-0 but don’t put up any crooked numbers. Long Beach kept it close and tied it up at 2 in the sixth. The Surfers took the lead in the top of the eighth with a solo homer by 2B Brett Compton off of Tropics RP Luis Santiago. The Hawaii Offense was shut down for the majority of the game as they didn’t score from the fifth inning on.

Long Beach won Game 1 of the series 3-2.

SS Fernando Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with a single and his first homer of the season.

SP Zach Johnson pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 8 hits, 4 walks and he struck out 5.

Game 2- The Trops get 2 hits each from DH Ettienne LaFitte, LF Bastiao Fardos and 2B Jack “Junkyard” Nichols while SP Stephen Taub pitched a strong 6 1/3 innings allowing just 5 hits and giving up 2 walks. He struck out 6 batters in 102 pitches (64 strikes) in earning his first win of the season.

RP Dominic Lawrence pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 3 batters.

LaFitte was 2 for 4 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, a walk and 2 stolen bases.

Fardos was 2 for 3 with a homer, a run scored, 4 ribbies and 2 walks.

Nichols was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, an RBI and a walk.

The Tropics win Game 2 8-0.


Game 3- The Surfers outhit the Tropics 11-3 but the Tropics turn 3 double plays and throw 2 out at the plate and survive the pitching duel with a 2-1 win.

SP Maxime Manceau continued the string of good starts. He pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up 10 hits and a walk but just 1 run. He struck out 4 in 101 pitches (66 strikes).

RP Norm McConnell picked up his second save of the season giving up a hit and a walk while striking out 1 in the ninth.

The Tropics win 2-1 and take the series 2-1.

Hawaii is 3-2 on the season tied with several teams atop the Pacific Division of the Frick.


GM Jim Walker was asked about the team's start. He said, " We need get things shored up in the pen and offensively. It is still early."

Nice report. Love the images. Kind of anti-climatic to not see those pitchers just shut down everything.
