2041.3 Reinforcements Arrive

Post by nerfHerder » Thu Feb 20, 2020 10:05 pm

When you're hanging out just outside of the last wild card spot, and you historically struggle to close deadline deals, what do you do? You raid your first place AAA team of course. While it hurts to slay their chances of winning in Death Valley, the Tropics are right there knocking on the door now with two solid months of play. Here are a few reasons why.

SP Jim Wilkinson

"Bullets" actually had a slow start to his major league career, but has since picked it up a notch. When it's all said and done, he'll be in one of the top three spots in the rotation next season. He really solidifies Hawaii's rotation now though, and would make a tough opponent in the postseason.

DH Ernest McBride

Ernest would be welcome in any lineup, I think that's a fair statement. He has so far seen limited action, but is also starting to heat up. When you have Gung-Ho and The Second Coming in your lineup already, you have to be creative. If anything, he has pushed LaFitte, who's numbers have gone up since McBride landed on the island.

LF Jose Camacho

Camacho isn't much in the field, but he can hit, which is where the club has struggled. Mostly seeing action against LHP, he has started off ok, with a homer and a .286 batting average in 21 at bats. His role will pretty much be just that as the season winds down.

The goal is the postseason. If the offense can keep improving, and the pitching can stay what it's been, Hawaii could be tough in a short series. For now, let's see if they make it.
