The Tropics have been hit with a flurry of serious injuries to a few key pieces so far in 2036. Not that they were a contender or anything, but when you lose guys you were counting on it throws a wrench in things. Here is a summary.
Reliever Rob Fuller has a long injury history. A comment was made when he signed that his contract is a steal IF he stays on the field. Something he hasn't been able to do. Rob missed a chunk of Spring with an inflamed shoulder. Back spasms caused him to miss most of April, then in June a torn labrum ended his season. This is the second time he has torn his labrum, and it may be the last. The hope is that the Tropics can use him in some role in 2037.
Juan Trujillo has had to undergo another Tommy John procedure. That story can be found here.
Ricardo Jaramillo is another guy that needs a torn labrum repaired. If Hawaii management were smart (which they aren't), they would look into what the heck the trainer is doing these days. Jaramillo won't be out as long as the rest, but is still expected to see a talent decrease. That is something he can afford. Long Relief is all the team can hope for when he returns.
Starting 2B Fernando Martinez suffered a torn hamstring to lose most of his season. Coming off of an All-Star year (by Hawaii standards, he had to be picked you know), this was not how it was envisioned. He should be back shortly after this long overdue article is posted. Whether or not he can take back his 2B job is another story all together.
So there it is. We can officially blame injuries on why the Tropics are so bad.
