Hawaii starter Daniel Thornton set the stage for the Trops allowing a run in 4.1 innings but the bullpen let the game get away.
Reynaldo Trinidad began the teams fall allowing three runs on two hits and a walk in his 1.1 innings. Then Jose ‘Mr. Reliable’ Valle coughed up three runs on three hits and a couple of walks.
Hawaii mounted a small rally in the top of the 9th after Carlos Sanchez reached on an error and Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinezblasted his 36th homer of the season to pull the Trops to within two runs. But former Trops farmhand Dave Furman came on to end the game in just seven pitches for the save.

Former Hawaii teammates faced off in Valencia with Stars pitcher Gerardo Rea toeing the rubber against Hawaii. His former rotation partner Semih Gurani took the ball for Hawaii to keep his friend out of the win column. Gurani gave up five runs on four hits and a walk in 3.2 innings to take the loss while Rea gave up four runs to four innings in a no decision.
Vicente Martinez was 3 for 5 with his 35th double, scored a run and drove in a run. Jose Ordonez had a big day at the plate going 2 for 5 with a double (18), stole a base (15), scored twice and had two RBI. Armando Medina drove in two runs while going 4 for 4 with a double (19).

Hawaii starter Gheorghe Sollomovici collected his 1st win of his abbreviated season allowing a run on four hits, a walk and struck out a batter. His offense took care of the rest putting up 10 runs on Takahashi and friends. Utkan Gocek earned a save with 1.1 scoreless innings.
Jorge Dodd was 2 for 3 with two walks, his 24th homer, scored three runs and had two ribbies. Vincente Mendez was 2 for 4 with a double (25), four RBI and scored a run. Vicente Martinez was 3 for 5 with a couple of doubles (37), stole a base (14), scored a run and drove in one.

Another former Trop excels as the Stars earn a series win. Kinzo Iwamoto gave up just two runs on five hits while fanning six in 6.2 innings to earn a win over his former teammates. Hawaii starter Manny Garcia took his lumps as his defense kicked and threw the ball all over the diamond making three errors. Garcia gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks in three innings to fall to 2-6.
SS Carlos Schumann was 2 for 3 with a double (28), triple (6), scored a run and had an RBI but also booted a ball in the bottom of the 1st.
The Valencia Stars win the four-game series 3-1.
More suckage. Hawaii is 3-9 in August and lost three series in a row.
