The Hawaii Tropics were ecstatic when the winners of the 2050 BBA Season post season awards were announced. Hawaii C Ron Shiplack was honored by the Frick League voters with the Charles Puckett Golden Bat Award at the catcher position. Shiplack played 128 games starting 125 while slashing .278/.345/.456 with a 116 OPS+ and posting a 4.1 WAR. This was a nice bounce back season for Shiplack after two lackluster seasons previously. This is the first Puckett for Shiplack to go along with five All Star games and Geohegan Round MVP.
Three Hawaii players received the 2050 Frick League Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove Awards at their positions.
SS Thomas Kramer took the trophy with another stellar season in the field. Kramer committed 11 errors with a .984 fielding %, a 4.86 Range and a 22.8 Zone Rating. He doesn’t do much with the bat but covers a lot of ground and makes the tough plays that helps him post a 2.3 WAR. This is his 3rd Zimmer with one in 2044, 2049 and now 2050.
CF Angelo Lucchesi won the trophy in his first full season with the big club. His bat is still a work in progress but his glove is top notch. He played 1243 2/3 innings in the field with 463 Total Chances, 450 Put outs and 13 Assists without an error. He had a 3.35 Range and a 16.2 Zone Rating to win his first Zimmer.
RF Tomas Guillen now has a Frick League Zimmer to go along with his Johnson League Zimmer he earned in the 2048 BBA Season. Guillen played an errorless season in right in 1328 innings. He had 293 Total Chances, 280 Put outs and 13 assists. He had a Range of 1.99 and a Zone Rating of 11.7.
