The Hawaii Tropics finish their road trip in Vancouver with a three game series against the Mounties at Northwoods Outpost.



Game1- Hawaii SP Jesus Gonzalez throws 5 1/3 scoreless while on offense LF Bastiao Fardos, 1B Gary Allen and DH Ernest McBride homer to lead the Tropics to their sixth straight win.

Gonzalez allowed 3 hits and walked 3 while striking out 7 batters. He is now 4-1 with a 3.31 ERA.

Fardos was 1 for 5 and scored 2 runs while driving in 1.

Allen was 2 for 5 scoring 2 and driving in 2.

McBride was 2 for 5 with a run and 2 RBI.



Hawaii wins 8-2.



Game 2- Down 7-5 to the Mounties, the Tropics offense took control in the seventh. Hawaii scored 5 in the seventh, 4 in the eighth and 2 in the ninth to run away from the Mounties. Fardos, Allen and McBride struck again for the Tropics with each racking up 2 homers. Fardos with a solo homer and a 2-run shot. Allen with a solo homer and a Grand Slam. McBride added another solo shot and another Grand Slam.

Fardos finished 2 for 3 with 4 runs, 3 RBI and 2 walks.

Allen was 2 for 4 with 3 runs, 5 RBI and 2 walks.

McBride was 2 for 5 with 2 runs and 5 RBI.

SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani struggled a bit in this start going 4 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs on on 3 walks and struck out 4 batters.



Hawaii wins 16-10.



Game 3- Hawaii SP Alaric Wullenweber continues to make quality starts. He allows 2 runs over 8 innings. He walked none and struck out 7. He improves to 7-1 with a 2.64 ERA.

Gary Allen was 3 for 4 with a run and 2 RBI.

SS Fernando Rodriguez was 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI.



Hawaii wins 7-2 and sweeps the series.



The Tropics return home to face the Long Beach Surfers at Diamond Head in a three game series.



Game 1- Miguel Rodriguez had successful 2043 for the Tropics playing short and mentoring young Fernando Rodriguez. This season he has been moved to third to give the Tropics a better defensive look. That has worked defensively but not at the plate. Rodriguez has been scuffling alone so far this season but he still shows he has some in the tank. Rodriguez was 1 for 3 with a bases cleaning double and a walk against the Surfers in the series opener. He scored 1 and drove in 4.

After the game Miguel said, “ The coaches have not given up on me. They keep running me out there and sooner or later I will get this figured out.”

SP Bob McConnell pitched 5 1/3 allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, a walk and 6 strikeouts. He improves to 3-1 with a 4.28 ERA.

Hawaii wins 8-5.



Game 2- Tropics SP Zak Johnson is showing signs of coming out from his doldrums. He pitched 7 innings of shut out ball. He gave up 5 hits and walked 2. He struck out 4 and improved to 5-3.

Allen was 3 for 4 with a solo homer.

McBride was 2 for 4 with a solo homer.

Miguel Rodriguez was 1 for 5 with a 3 run homer.



Hawaii wins 7-0.



Game 3- Long Beach SP Ernesto Delgado shut down the Tropics offense and ended the Hawaii wins streak at 10 games. Delgado pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing just 1 run on 2 hits and a walk while striking out 8 batters.

Ernest McBride was 2 for 4.

Jesus Gonzalez gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, a walk and struck out 2 in 6 innings of work.



Long Beach wins 3-1 but Hawaii wins the series 2-1.

These were more fun to read when I was on the other side of the standings from where I am now.
