The Tropics continue their home stand with a four game series with Pacific Division Leader San Fernando Bears at Diamond Head.



Game 1- The San Fernando Bears come back late from a 4-1 deficit scoring 2 runs in the eighth and 1 in the ninth to send the game to extras. The Bears then score 2 in the eleventh inning and hold hold in the bottom of the eleventh to take the opener.

Stephen Taub pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits, a walk and struck out 4 batters but had this start wasted by the bullpen. RP Maxime Manceau gave up 2 runs in 1 1/3 innings on 2 solo homers.
RP Norm McConnell gave up a solo homer in 1 2/3 innings pitched then RP Felipe Lopez pitched the last 1 1/3 innings giving up the 2 runs on a homer to take the loss.

RF Mike Campbell was 1 for 4 with a 2 run homer. He scored 1 and drove in 3 on the day.


San Fernando wins 6-5.


Game 2- Tropics Starter SP Jesus Gonzalez threw water on the hot Bear offense to spur Hawaii to victory. Gonzalez allowed just 1 run on 4 hits, a walk and struck out 7 batters over 8 1/3 innings of work. RP Luis Santiago recorded the final 2 out via the strikeout to get the save.

1B Ernest McBride was 1 for 3 and doubled in the only runs the tropics would need.

Hawaii wins 2-1.


Game 3- The Tropics trailed the Bears 5-1 going into the bottom of the ninth and scored 4 runs topped off with a 3 run homer off the bat of rookie CF Manny Garcia. Then, in the bottom of the eleventh, 3B Gary Allen crushed a solo homer to send the fans home happy.

SP Niccolo “Notorious” Destefani struggled through 4 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, no walks and 4 strikeouts. The bullpen came on to shut down the Bears allowing 2 hits and a walk the rest of the way. Bob McConnell pitched 11/3 innings, walked 1 and struck out 1. RP Luis Torres threw 1 2/3 innings allowing just 2 hits and struck out 1. Luis Santiago went 2 innings and struck out 3 batters. Norm McConnell also pitched 2 innings and struck out 2.

Allen was 2 for 5 with a homer, double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Garcia was 1 for 1 with the 3 run homer in the ninth.

CF Ronnie Hubbard was 2 for 5 with a run scored and 2 stolen bases.


Hawaii wins 6-5.


Game 4- The Bears bombard the Tropics with 12 runs over the last 5 innings to split the four game series with Hawaii. Hawaii SP Alaric Wullenweber was horrible in the fifth inning allowing 6 runs. Overall he pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up 8 runs on 6 hits and a walk. He struck out 5 in the loss as he falls to 4-6. Manceau struggled again allowing 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning. RP Luis Torres gave up 1 run in 1 2/3 innings. Felipe Lopez stunk it up again with 2 runs allowed in an inning of work.

Ernest McBride was 3 for 5 with a homer, 3 runs scored and an RBI.

Campbell was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.


San Fernando wins 14-7.



The Hawaii Tropics take a long flight to Madison for a three game series with the Wolves at Shotz Stadium.



Game 1- The Tropics get a poor pitching performance from SP Zak Johnson and the bullpen cant stop the bleeding either as the Wolves take the series opener.

Johnson made it through just 2 2/3 innings and surrendered 6 runs on 8 hits, 3 walks and struck out no one. Maxime Manceau allowed a run over 1 2/3 and RP Douglas Wils gave up 2 runs over an inning and a third.

LF Jose Camacho was one of the few bright spots going 3 for 4 with a double, homer, a run and 5 RBI.


Madison wins 9-6.


Game 2- The Tropics fall behind 4-0 but fight their way back to take the second game. Jesus Gonzalez was chased after 4 innings and 4 runs allowed. He gave up 5 hits and 6 walks while striking out 5 batters. Gonzalez said, “The hitters are super patient and waited for a pitch to hit. I also didn’t help things walking so many.”

Rookie Bob McConnell settled things down going 2 1/3 clean innings and struck out 3 batters. He earned his first BBA win.

McBride was 3 for 5 with a homer, triple, a run and 2 RBI.

LF Bastiao Fardos was 2 for 5 with a run and 2 RBI.


Hawaii wins 6-5.


Game 3- Wullenweber has another weak start as the Wolves take the series 2-1.

Wullenweber struggled through 5 innings surrendering 5 runs on 7 hits, a walk and 3 Ks. He is now 4-7 with a 4.39 ERA. He hit 2 batters in the first inning.

Fardos was 3 for 4 with a homer, double, a run and an RBI.


Madison wins 7-1.
