With the Mad Popes very much in the hunt for the Pacific crown as well as making sure that the chasing pack is kept at bay, the Popes leadership was taking a hard look at the first base situation. With the Mad Popes offense scoring more runs, the first base situation was identified as a way to upgrade the team, and the Mad Popes ended up swinging a deal with Cape Fear to acquireTariel Bogolyubski as an extra bat. Bogolyubski has been fairly consistent in his career and will provide good power numbers as well as having contact and gap skills that are going to strengthen the lineup and provide more depth to the lineup.
With Vancouver having been looking to upgrade their pitching, the Mad Popes have chosen to start their deadline dealings with improving their offense in line with GM Ben Heuring's goals of marrying the defensive and pitching characteristics that the Popes have had with a power game that Heuring has always loved.
"Tariel fits a need and when Woody reached out for a deal, we felt comfortable to swing the trade. The upcoming series with Vancouver is going to be exciting, and an early test of if the moves that the two teams have made recently. While I won't divulge anything in public, the Mad Popes are going to be looking at doing all we can to make sure that we have the strongest possible team."
