"Good evening, and welcome to the unveiling of our new GM. We want to wish Shoeless well for his success here, and know that the Robins are going to get an awesome GM. To replace Shoeless, we decided to get the man he is succeeding. Please welcome Ben Heuring as the new President of Baseball Operations of the Mad Popes."
A gasp went through the assembled media. Ben Heuring? The man who infamously traded Brooks Eliot for pennies on the dollar? The guy who has been described as the Nico Harrison of the BBA?
Heuring sat down and smiled into the camera, and knew that there were going to be a ton of questions about how suitable he would be for this role. He cleared his throat and made his first comments in his new job. "I want to thank Mr. Mueller for this chance. This was a swap that had been discussed after the Monty was over, and was the right move. To all of the Mad Popes fans who are skeptical about me given my record, I don't blame you at all in the slightest for being wary. My goal is to take the excellent foundation that Shoeless has built and add to it."
"Andy Boyle from the San Francisco Chronicle. How exactly will you marry your style with the style of team that the Popes have built?"
"Good question. I've spent the last few days doing a detailed review of this organization and the landscape of both our Pacific rivals and the teams in the Heartland. There are some great GMs that are going to do their utmost to take our division crown away from us, and we want to be the team that knocks Nashville off their throne. In fact, I'm going to say this right now. My goal is to get home field advantage in the Cartwright Cup against Nashville. And I know how to get our manager and coaching staff the chance to play a Game 7 here instead of Nashville."
