There has been a lot made in the offseason how new President of Baseball Operations Ben Heuring's preference for power hitters would mesh with an organization that has focused on playing small ball. So it was a little surprising when the guy that Heuring got from his previous employer was a reliever that he knows well. Cade Miller comes over from the Robins along with prospect pitchers Charlie Egan and Pedro Uralde for the price of José Betancourt.
With the addition of Miller to a back end of the Mad Popes bullpen that features a couple of very good young stoppers and a former Egan winner in Jeff Locke, the Mad Popes look projected to have a very good bullpen.
"You might be a little surprised to see that I ended up getting Cade, but he was the Robin that I wanted to add. I feel like our bullpen has added more depth. Giving our coaching staff 3 young stoppers, Cade, and Jeff in the late innings really is going to help shorten up games. Cade also was a guy that was a late inning weapon last year for the Robins, and is the first step in my plan to take what is already a very talented team to follow through on my goal to get a home Game 7 in the Cartwright Cup."
