We've made the mistake one time of eating Meixcan food on vacation. Never again. Only in El Paso or the surrounding area.

We have a small Mexican place in a makeshift corner of a gas station that serves better true Mexican food than I've gotten anywhere else. It's carry out only and it is wildling delicious. The habanero salsa (which I continually dump on my burrito as I devour its soul) is out of this damn world.

Definitely a tongue-in-cheek comment. There are Mexican laborers throughout the Midwest who bring the authentic tastes of home with them. I've had some great Mexican food in farm towns in Iowa.shoeless.db wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 2:55 pmWe have a small Mexican place in a makeshift corner of a gas station that serves better true Mexican food than I've gotten anywhere else. Chicago has a tremendous Mexican food scene. Second most native Mexicans of any American city after Los Angeles.

Re: 2061.06 Popes Make Major Trade
Ahh…I love Mexican food. One of the reasons I’m happy that I live in Arizona.
Then there’s the time I went to a Mexican restaurant named Tequila’s when visiting my family in Southern Illinois that my uncle referred to as Tuh-Kwill-Uhs.
My dad, who minored in Spanish in college, talked to the waiter in Spanish all night, which the waiter said he enjoyed because so few people in the area speak Spanish.
My brother asked the waiter about one of the meals on the menu.
“This mole…is that real mole?”
The waitered chucked and responded “No, we can’t serve real mole here. This is like a fundido sauce.”

Re: 2061.06 Popes Make Major Trade
I live in as rural a town in the southwestern tip of Virginia (the part of the map where VA, Kentucky, WV, TN, and NC all sort of merge together). Not exactly a hub of immigration if you catch my drift. Yet I felt like this Team News was written in my home town where we are surrounded by no more than a dozen Mexican restaurants within a 20 mile radius.
