"Everyone I know is a Mad Popes fan," Weatherford said after celebrating with family and friends upon learning of the news. "My dad has yet to quit jumping around and hugging everyone. Somebody pinch me, cause I'm in heaven."
"We just love his power," GM shoeless said from his office at the Basilica. "Power has always been a point of emphasis for us here in Sacramento. All of us like nothing better than to see balls flying over that deep right field wall."
Weatherford's power could be quite the savior in the coming years as the 2058 Mad Popes are sitting dead last in long balls through a month and a half into the season. The team's measly 12 dingers is something GM shoeless wishes would change.
"I've never seen anything like this lack of power with this current bunch of punch-n-Judys," shoeless continued. "I'm just so sick of this wimpy ass style of play. I've spent 17 seasons trying to fix it, but have yet to find the magic bullet."
