Team Contemplated Fielding “Best Outfield Defense on Planet”

Nov 16, 2055

After suffering through a nightmare of a season that saw him lose his starting position to Zimmer Award-winning Don Keagle and suffer through a summer of trade rumors, only to be kept with the club in a part-time role, Kei-Thing Law could be forgiven for hoping something else might work out in 2056. Rumors are that the something that is “working out” is tha idea of fielding him in left field, at least as the strong side of a platoon.

“Ron doesn’t like classic utility roles,” said assistant GM Carlos Camacho while attending the Dolores Kay Charity luncheon yesterday. “Kei-Thing is a good player, especially if we can keep him hitting in favorable match-ups.” He went on to suggest that the thought is that a left-field platoon of Law and Curt Lehman could be quite effective and that someone called Herb the Marketing Man adored the term “Lehman and Law in Left” so much he nearly giggled himself giddy.

On the face of it, the idea has some merit. Law has been a 1.2 WAR kind of player fulltime, and has posted a .289 wOBA against right handers, vs. only a .247 against lefties across his career. And pitchers, when confronted with the idea of Law—who was an elite defender in center, even though Keagle outshines him—beside Keagle makes them happier that Herb the Marketing Man on a Commercial set.

“I’m cool with it,” Law said. “After last year, I’ll do anything to get on the field.”
