Mad Pope Ace Says He Thought the All-Star Break Was Still On
July 11, 2055
After being selected for the Frick League All-Stars, Sacramento Mad Pope sarting pitcher and Nebraska Award Candidate Carlos Flores was AWOL tonight, saying afterwards the he had mis-read the calendar and thought the break was supposed to last another day.Dylan Wonnocot started in his place, and went 4.2 innings in a game the Mad Popes eventually won 2-1 over Madison.
Shortly thereafter, local milk bottling companies halted an emergency run of bottles with Flores's name and image on them. Some are now floating around as future collectors' items, we're sure.
Flores pitched one inning in the grand old game, throwing only 8 pitches to dispose of the Johnson League wannbes, so the team expected him to be ready to start.
“I was just sitting by the pool, Flores said, sheepishly. I forgot what day it was.”
No word on which pool Flores was sitting beside, or what else might have been going on at the pool, but this reporter has found suggestion that backers of several Heartland teams pooled their Crowdfunding money in the days before the event, and made a payment to a Nashville-based house of recreation shortly thereafter.
