47.05 Popes Receive Gift

Sacramento (AP) -- The Sacramento Mad Popes overcame the dastardly general managing style of GM Shoeless in 2047 by securing the Pacific Division crown with a record of 91-71. This marks the fourth division winning team during the Shoeless era which started in 2039.
"Shoeless has really taken a backseat this season," said relief pitcher Jeff Skinner. "Last year, he was constantly meddling with lineups and roster moves, but this season all he does is sit in a lawn chair in the clubhouse eating sauerkraut and canned sardines. I'm not sure which is worse, to be honest."
Shoeless' non-existent general managing during the regular season helped stave off late surges by division foes, Hawaii and Vancouver. Unconfirmed reports point to this success as the reason Shoeless will be entirely absent during the 2047 playoffs.
"I'm going camping, then maybe take in the sights of some large Wisconsin women in two-piece swimsuits," Shoeless said via telephone. "Brett Schroeder, one of the UMEBA GMs, can't get enough of these Wisconsin women, so I thought I'd take a gander at them during the playoffs. The team runs better without me anyway."
Shoeless' absence looks to be a major gift. One that could propel the team to their first Monty Brewster Championship since the franchise's California Crusader era.
