Even a blind dog can find a bone.
In August of the 2040 BBA season, GM Shoeless pulled the trigger on a deal that brought one of the top leadoff men in the Brewster. Quant Kouros brought an immediate impact to a lineup starved for speed and quality at bats at the top of the order.
In his five and half seasons with the Popes, the Greek Freak has coupled a .393 on base percentage with a league best 358 stolen bases. He's led the Frick in every season in stolen bases, along with leading the league in OBP in 2044. Kouros has been everything the Sacramento fan base could have asked for.
Which brings to question Kouros' future with the organizaion. He signed a 6yr/$55.1m contract prior to the 2041 season. That contract will expire after this season, and, with the recent addition of sweet swinging first baseman Alejandro Ortiz, Shoeless may be looking to move onto the one good thing he's brought to the Popes.
"I can't speculate on Quant's future," said a flippant Shoeless. "All I know is new Pope manager, Bill Inkster, is looking forward to inking, pun intended (author note: shoeless laughed at his own joke here), Kouros into the leadoff spot every game this season."
Kouros, who has been nothing but a class act with his time in Sacramento, was more philosophical concerning his future. "I once heard that life is nothing but a series of arrivals and departures. Who am I to believe my life is exempt from this idea?"
Regardless of what happens, the one surety is Shoeless will choose the path most detrimental to the team.
Fire Shoeless.
(editors note: We apologize to our faithful readers for any hints at Shoeless not being a terrible GM in this article. The author is an assistant to an intern here at fireshoeless.com. He's young and has much to learn about the world.)
