44.44 Pagan! Be Gone!
July 28, 2044 | Mad Popes Record: 46-57, 18.5 GB, 9.5 GB(WC), 3-4 last sim
Rolio Elder | Apprentice to the Exalted Mystic | Donkeagle Press
Well, we tried.
We tried living peacefully. Nay, we tried prospering with a Pagan on the Popes, but the experiment failed. And, let the record clearly show, it was the Pagan that did most of the failing.
The three time all-star was brought in as the missing piece in a backward offense. Instead, he proved to be a hindrance in the solving of the puzzle, blocking the light (and all the contract money) from the guys doing the actual work on the team. As a result, Pagan was traded today to Charlotte where he finished his 2043 season, thus ending his Mad Popes tenure with a .218/.306/.439 slash-line, earning 0.8 WAR in 101 starts from his lineup spot in right field.
In exchange for Pagan and a crisp $10 million, the Popes received the unglamorous, but consistent hitting Fernando Reyes and Vinnie Coalman, who was long coveted by GM Shoeless for his prowess in centerfield and on the basepaths.
"Pagan was never part of our Right WindTM philosophy," said Shoeless during a press conference detailing the trade. "He was an impulse buy, like a hungry man purchasing a $23 million Snickers bar at a gas station checkout. He didn't fit. He's not who we are. And, I made the move today to get us back on track."
Reyes will fill the hole left by Pagan in the outfield against right hand pitching. He lacks the power and speed of Pagan, but his price tag is much more manageable and his lefty bat is more in-line with the Popes' traditional outfield platoons. Coalman, on the other hand, will act as a massive insurance piece at centerfield with Po-sin Shi struggling so mightily at the plate. Coalman plays exceptional defense and will compliment an already solid Sacramento defense up the middle.
The deal frees up $16m for next season and $4.5 in 2046, with further savings dependent on Reyes' player opt out decision after the 2046 season.
"Best of luck to Ramon (Pagan) moving forward," Shoeless continued. "He was a class act during his time here, but we're sure looking forward to moving on."

Pagan just couldn’t get used to the Gregorian Chant walkup music ... or the chicken feathers.

Hopefully he gets back to his above-career average numbers he posted in Charlotte last season.

It could be argued sending someone to Charlotte is much worse than excommunication.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:46 amvery disappointed the title wasn't something involving excommunication.

The road to Wichita from the rest of the league & visa versa is very lightly trod. The path is dark & rough
