44.27 Catcher Merry-Go-Round Continues

In just another area of concern for our Sacramento squad this season, the Mad Popes will play their fourth different catcher behind the plate. 24-year-old Pedro Figueroa received the call this week to join the club from AA Bismarck. On the year in AA, Figueroa is slashing .301/.393/.595 in 153 at-bats.

"Why not? Nothing else is fucking working," Shoeless said. "We need a spark. Lighting in a bottle. Hell, we need Camacho himself to rain hell-fire down to get this team going."

The promotion of Figueroa will send Eddie Undergilder back to the minors. Undergilder, who started the year with the Popes, was replaced by Bayou Hakki earlier this season, only to be promoted back to the club when Hakki forgot how to hit also. King of Mediocrity, Kazuki Saito has been the primary catcher for the Popes all season.

The catcher merry-go-round is one Shoeless would like to solve, if possible, before moving onto next season.

"I feel like I'm playing that old game of Mastermind," Shoeless said. "One of these damn combinations we're throwing onto the field each night has to work. Right? Right?"

Exalted Mystic Ralph Dewaldo is not as optimistic: "With nothing but a sad mess of soggy wood, Shoeless is out there rubbing all the pieces together trying to build a bonfire."

Not especially poetic, Dewaldo. You’re losing your touch. Not enough time contemplating the glories of Camacho, perhaps?

Shoeless playing Mastermind is like me playing Track & Field on the original NES.
