44.19 Popes Draft Three in First Round

Post by shoeless.db » Thu Sep 17, 2020 1:49 pm

May 5, 2044 | Mad Popes Record: 10-20, 10GB, 2-4 last sim
Rolio Elder | Apprentice to the Exalted Mystic | Camacho Order #26 | Donkeagle Press

Like the overflowing garbage can in my teenage son's bedroom, the Sacramento Mad Popes continued to add trash to an already garbage-ridden farm system by selecting three tragically flawed amateurs in this season's draft.

Nolan Lee
The Popes selected pitching prospect Nolan Lee 39th overall with their first selection. Lee is raw, can't throw a strike to save his poor mother's life, and from Virginia, but those negatives weren't enough to have the Popes pass on him with their first pick.

"The green-eyed woman, you know, Kocherscmeltz's old assistant, gave us reports on his spin rates," Shoeless said via a Zoom call. "She was very interested to conduct research on the young man's fingertip pressure and techniques, because he was getting an awful lot of movement from the ball, especially his splitter."

For Lee to make it to Sacramento, he'll need to develop more command of that splitter and his equally elite sinker. Also, a bump in velocity would certainly help in his stuff development (Editor's Note: We don't know what "stuff" means, but we were too lazy to make a change before publishing).

With the two compensation picks the Popes received due to losing veterans Luis Gracia and Cisco Morales, the team selected pitcher Aaron Anderson and outfielder Bayissa Mbaya.

Anderson is the complete opposite to Lee. He has great stuff and command potential, but lacks movement in his pitches. Mbaya looks to be a run of the mill corner outfielder with a good makeup which could result in some growth in his abilities.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.

To be fair, a player doesn't even need to be, scientifically speaking, a life form to platoon on my Short A squad.

There you have it! A couple of simple sugars from a discarded box of Mike & Ike’s could be the bullpen of your dreams!
