42.32 Pepe Pérez Promoted

New Sheriff in Town

August 4, 2042: The California Crusaders were quick to name a new skipper this evening, handing the job to long-time minor league manager Pepe Pérez. The position became available after the abrupt firing of Alberto Franco earlier today.

"We just kept hearing the same name from everyone in the organization, from ballplayers, coaches and training staff. Everyone has nothing but great things to say about Pepe Pérez," said GM Shoeless in a press conference introducing Pérez as manager. "He's got tremendous rapport with the guys he manages. And, we're just so happy to have him jump up to the Crusaders at this time.

Pérez has managed within the California organization since 2027, spending time with both the AAA and AA affiliates. In his time as manager, he's compiled a 1313-976 record.

"I'm not planning on changing one bit about myself or how I manage games," said Pérez. "I have honed my approach to the game over many years and I've found much success. My job is simply to put people in situations where they, too, can find success."

Pérez's balance approach to baseball is what convinced Shoeless to hire him.

"We have a hell of a ball club right now playing at South Pacific Field," said Shoeless. "We needed someone who can bring this group of guys together; Make them care about winning again; Make them care about the jersey they put on and the city and fans it represents. Pepe's the perfect guy for that."

The Crusaders currently hold a 61-47 record and a 6 1/2 game lead over Hawaii in the Pacific division standings, but the team has benefited greatly from a downward talent trend in the division. The change in managers was made after getting swept by a mediocre Nashville squad, a split with Yellow Springs, and an embarrassing 8-4 loss to Portland.

Who's "D. Olmsted" and what has he done with Shoeless the Miserable?

Pepe's silver handlebar 'stache is worth at least two extra wins alone.

Pepe looks like Rocky Wattson's dad: similar stache.

This new Shoeless seems way too competent, and we can't have that! Let Shoeless be Shoeless, we say!

I was hoping five wins, but I'd settle for two.
