35 Potentials
Jim Lambert
"We were pretty divided within our scouting group on who to grab with our second pick this draft," GM Shoeless said during a press conference to announce the selection. "Having gotten the starting pitching prospect we wanted to nab in the first round with Groucho, it opened up some possibilities for us."
Well, true to form, Shoeless is going to need the stars to align for his newest toy to live up to any possibility on a baseball field. The 6'0", 180 lb. Lambert continues to be a work in progress in the field at 21 years of age. His elite speed has yet to transfer to his outfield play. One scout we reached out to from another organization stated Lambert's ability to get a jump on a flyball is similar to a teenager waking up on a weekend -- he'll get going at some point, but it's not going to be early enough to do anything productive.
Although, an anonymous source from with the Crusader organization has hinted they my try an unorthodox solution of playing the lefty at third base, due to Lambert's elite infield skills. Lambert is athletic just in the wrong way for a solid BBA defensive player.
On the flip-side, Lambert has shown the ability to utilize his speed and athleticism on the base paths.
"Me and the guys were up late the other night watching some film of Lambert stealing bases," said Shoeless. "We actually needed to slow down the tape just so we could see him running from first to second. Hell, he was already dusting himself off while standing on second when the throw from the catcher arrived."
Hitting Coach Kieren Jobe
"We felt he had some development left in his contact and avoid-k skills yet, especially against righties," said Jobe. "Hell, if he's the guy we think he'll be, the skies the limit to what he can accomplish."
Well, looks like Jobe drank the Shoeless kool-aid, as he too believes a 35 BBA Potential is considered the sky.
How long until Shoeless is fired so we can draft some decent ballplayers again?
