Catch
by David "Horrible" Simpson

Here's your glove, I said
And you slept
And here's a ball, I said
And you slumbered
And I tucked them near you
And I dreamed of a catch.

Here's your glove, I said
And you smiled
And here's a ball, I said
And you smirked
And we walked to the lawn
And we had a good catch.

Where's your glove, I said
And you shrugged
And where's a ball, I said
And you snuffed
And I let you grow older
And I dreamed of a catch.

Here's your glove, he said
And I smiled
And here's a ball, he said
And I smirked
And I played with my grandson
And we had a good catch.

You might need to do an age check on Simpson if he's playing catch with his grandson ...

Alternate fourth stanza:

I dream of a catch, I sigh
And I shrug
And I wish for a catch, I sigh
And I snuff
And I walk to the lawn
And I wish for more time.
