Geez, seriously, what's wrong with Carter's face? I'm here trying to write a nice, little write up on the solid season Carter posted for AAA Black Hills this season -- a season where he posted a respectable 4.24 ERA, 4.59 FIP, and a 10-8 record -- but his official media guide photo looks like he just got done lighting a full gross of Black Cat firecrackers in the team clubhouse.

I planned to talk about the great move it was by GM Shoeless to nab Carter from the large minor league free agent pool this offseason, but, again, that face ... what do we do with that face? I'm just going to throw a couple quotes from several people below. I can't do this anymore.

GM Shoeless: "Carter works his butt off, is a team leader, and gained more control on his pitches this season. We're proud of where he is and hope he can continue to get better."

Black Hills Pitching Coach Skip 'Crunchy' Glendenning: "This guy gets to the ballpark so damn early we had to give him a key. Maybe the baseball gods will reward his hard work with lightning strike to his average arm."

Jim, manager of Reptile Gardens in Rapid City, SD (where the Rally play): "I like turtles."

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
