Cali Decree 2039.2: Simpson Makes Roster

Post by shoeless.db » Thu Jun 27, 2019 9:53 am

SAI -- Welcome, Crusader-Nation, to The Cali Decree. I'm your host, Sai "Young" Ahuji, and with me, as always, is Aarav "The Pope of Mumbai" Patil.

AARAV -- [shrugs shoulders] Hmm... I don't know, Sai. Is he ready?

SAI -- My guess is you're talking about tonight's top story. In a not-so-surprising move, General Manager Shoeless decided to include BBA's 23rd top prospect, David Simpson, on the opening day roster for our California Crusaders. The strong hitting lefty from New York City is penciled in as the opening day right fielder. For more on this story, our top unpaid intern, Wasim Jeffers Jr., is standing by with Simpson. Wasim?

[Frame shot of Wasim and Simpson standing outside the batting cage as veteran, Felix Avila takes pitch after pitch from hitting coach, Jude Longton, in the background]

WASIM -- Today, I have the pleasure of speaking with the new, highly-touted right-fielder for the Crusaders, David Simpson. David, thanks for joining us. How did you learn you'd made the club out of spring training?

SIMPSON -- Well, GM Shoeless brought me into the office with the skipper (Alberto Franco). I was sure I'd be heading back to the Rockers in Clash City. My heart just sank thinking of riding that damn Rocker bus all over the country again. I mean, I didn't have the most spectacular spring. I wanted to put on a show, but ...

WASIM -- Yeah, .231 isn't exactly a marque material.

SIMPSON -- Not at all, but I know I'm better than that. And, it looks like management thinks the same. When Shoeless said I'd made the club I about jumped through the roof of his office.

WASIM -- What are your expectations for the year? Are you looking to win the Joe GIllstrom Newcomer Award?

SIMPSON -- We gotta play 'em one day at a time. I'm just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ballclub. I just want to give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out.

[Cut back to SAI and AARAV in the studio]

AARAV -- Wait, did he just frickin' Bull Durham us? Geez, that guy does need to quit riding buses.

SAI -- For all of us at The Cali Decree, thanks for watching and we'll see you at the ballpark, Crusader Nation.

I contemplated holding him out for control reasons, but, in the end, this team deserves to have its best players on the field.
