2035 Brewster Champs!

Crusaders fans! Can you believe it? We did it! Champs! Well .... I don't. I can't. I really don't know what to say. My mind is ... racing! It's been twelve hours since we won it all and I .... I've never been so happy!!! I'll not bore you with the details of a series you won't ever forget. Instead, let's focus on the incredible performances that got us here, and the players who made our dreams come true.
Doubleday Series, Landis Series MVP Newman Watson Wow!
What a guy! Watson is no stranger to postseason heroics, having previously been a series MVP three times. He slashed .387/.390/.427 with 8 RBI and scored 9 times in the postseason. He had hits in key situations throughout both series, including the go ahead single in a critical game five against the Bears in the Doubleday with the Crusaders on the brink of elimination. I mean, it just seemed like every time he was up, he was going to get a hit! He did vanish in the Cartwright, but hit .500! against Rockville in the Landis!
Cartwright Cup MVP Esteban Cuervo was an absolute monster this postseason. He hit .327/.411/.726! Six postseason homers! 14 driven in! 9 steals! Incredible. Frankly, I thought he should have been the offensive MVP of the Doubleday. So many clutch homers! Jeez. I hope that doesn't upset Mr. Watson. I mean, both were great! They should have been co-MVPs that round!
Fernando Moreno may not have collected as many hits as the last couple guys, but he made the ones he got count! 7 homers, 14 RBI! Slugged .681! He even stole a base! Mr. Moreno is now a four time Landis Champion, and his seven series MVP awards show that he hasn't just been lucky to be on good teams. Did you know he is the all time leader in post season homers? It's not even close. He's 15 ahead of second place. He also leads in RBI by 18, total bases, and games played.
Bryan Robson struggled with the bat at this year, but more than made up for it with the leather. But wow! Did he every break out in October! .403/.459/.612 Unbelievable. "Captain Marvel" absolutely caught fire against Rockville.
Luis Gracia was just amazing! I mean, us Crusaders fans have know he was one of the best in the league for a long time. But I get the feeling he wasn't appreciated nationally. Not anymore! Six starts, four wins, 39.2 innings, 1.82 ERA! Don't forget his incredible back to back starts in the Doubleday when our Crusaders were on the ropes! Despite that abbreviated second outing (one of the greatest demonstrations of guts ever!) he averaged seven innings per start!
Cisco Morales also stepped up big time in the post season. I'll tell you, Offie was worried! Morales, after a brilliant first half, was pretty terrible down the stretch. But he really got it together in his three starts this postseason, including pitching the last 1.2 innings to close out a thrilling game seven against San Fernando in the Doubleday!
Ricardo Diaz. I don't have words. I'm overflowing with emotion. One last time! One last time the Crusaders needed a hero. I have tears. I have more thoughts, but can't get them together right now.
