Crusaders News! 2035.30 - First in the Brewster!

Crusaders Have League's Best Record
June 2, 2035
Offen Sichtlich der Kunstgriff

I have great news! Well, two things! Two news things to tell you all about. I suppose though, that the title gave away the first one. But let's all say it together again. FIRST IN THE BREWSTER! I don't know about you, Crusaders fans, but that feels awesome. And we got here the Crusaders ways. Pitching, pitching and more pitching, with a healthy portion of strong defense. First in starter ERA, first in bullpen ERA, first in runs allowed. Second in defense, too. Cisco Morales has cooled off, but Luis Gracia, Jaime Mercado, and Miguel Ramos have picked up the slack. Ricardo Diaz even found the fountain of youth in May, with a 3.23 era, while striking out 30 in 39 innings.

If people had any sense (Offie is not holding his breath) and stopped using saves as a primary criteria for evaluating relievers, Reynaldo Garza would be among the front runners for the Egan Award. The guy's on pace to throw 132 innings with a 2.18 era out of the 'pen. He's also being used almost exclusively in high leverage situations. Of course, the voters will give the award to someone who threw half as many innings against the three easiest outs in the game, simply because they accumulated a meaningless statistic.

*sigh* Well, we can't have it all. Maybe Offie is getting a bit greedy. We ARE the best team in the league, at least for now. Let's look at what happened this last week to get us there.

Fernando Moreno is heating up again. He hit three more homers last week. He's now on pace for 38 ... with 49 RBI. Yikes! Someone should probably get on base in front of him. I'm no baseball historian, but I imagine that would be some kind of record. One of those came in the 5-4 win that sealed a sweep of the Seattle Storm. Cisco Morales then really set the tone in game one of the Boise series, going seven while allowing one and striking out eight. After a stumble in game two, Jaime Mercado shut the door in game three, pitching into the 9th. Then it was off to Des Moines where Ricardo Diaz's six plus strong innings helped us open the set with the Kernels with a win. And game two ... Oh My! Luis Gracia twirled a one run shutout in what may have been the Crusaders best pitching performance of the season so far. Will we get another sweep today? That would be the 5th of the season! The Crusaders next six games are at home against Hawaii and Louisville.

Umm ... okay .. so I promised I had TWO pieces of great news. I called Maddy, and that's her name! She didn't answer, which is great! Because her message said "Maddy"! Also, I didn't hang up or anything. I just said, "I really enjoyed talking to you at the party and would like to do so again" and asked her to call or text back! And she did! We're going to that Vietnamese restaurant I mentioned tonight! Even if the date doesn't go well .. I get to eat Pho! And they always have the Crusaders game on! Hooray Offie!

Great news.
Ted & Maddy
Sounds good.

I got good news today too.
Based on my grandparents having been born in Ireland, I applied for Irish citizenship, providing them with original birth certificates of my grandparents and my father. That was six months ago. Today I got a registered post from Ireland: I am now officially an Irish citizen. Still USA too, of course. Now I apply for an Irish passport. Why? Because I can.

just remember offie, if anyone gives you grief for choosing a date with maddy over a crusaders game, just tell them that you had to go see about a girl. They will understand.

To be clear Offie is dating Maddy. I have the same girlfriend I've had for half a year or more. Not sure why I'm bothering to make the distinction, but somehow they always find out.
