Offseason recap '97-'98

Now that the regular season is here let's take a look at the key additions and subtractions California made over this offseason.
The #1 signing for Cal in my humble opinion has to be Oscar Mazzarella. Bringing in a plus defender at a premium defensive position that can be penciled in for 20+ homers and an above average batting average, who wouldn"t do that? Oh and also hes only 26. This move does create the problem of where to play Billy Wilson? Wilson is clearly in the twilight of his career but he did knock 41 HR's.
The only 2 other additions worth mentioning both occured in the bullpen. Pedro Martinez is a dominant lefty and should be an immediate upgrade towards the back of the pen. Len Cortese has been brought in to be the new closer.
Overall there were no subtractions worth mentioning so California should be looking to have a better season especially considering the young pitching that should be ready to break into the bigs sometime this year. Michael Duran, Oscar Funke, Steve Taub, and Robert Gaiser have the future looking brighter for Cali.
