The next day he picked up a pinch-hit single.
Back in the starting lineup against Twin Falls, exploded with six hits in six at bats, all of them singles. He stole a base, drove in a pair of runs, and scored a couple himself as the team won 9-0.
The next game, also at Twin falls, he led off with another single.
Then he walked.
Nine strait plate appearances without an out.
Unfortunately, he grounded out in his next at bat, but went on to finish the day with four more hits, going 5 for 7 on the day, two of the hits doubles. The team won this time by the eye-popping score of 27-1.
Sato, who has been playing shortstop, but who most scouts say is likely to need a move to second base if he manages to make the big leagues, is considered a borderline prospect. But performances like that could raise expectations.
“I’m a little nicked up right now,” he said, waiving the bandaged finger he sprained in the following game. “But I can play, and I’m on a hot run. It’s going to take a lot more than a bum finger to keep me out of the lineup.”
