The Yellow Springs Nine issued the following press release:
In honor of 40 year old Tom Rudge, who has taken on number 40 for the Nine, the team has announced that section 40 of Utopia Field will be named "Rudge's Rooters." Everyone seated in that section will be presented with a rotating set of special items to help rally the team to victory, ranging from flags to towels to whistles and noisemakers.
Rudge, who wore number 23 for his entire career with Last Vegas, made the move to 40 even though his usual number would have been available.
"I figured it was time for a change, and what better number than 40, reflecting who I am at this point in my career as a baseball player?" said the 22 year veteran. "I'm really honored that my new team has taken such a shining to me and is going all out to make me feel welcomed."
"We have the best fans in the entire Brewster," said GM Rob McMonigal, holding up an example of the shirt at the press conference. "When one of our interns came up with this idea, I told him to immediately run with it. We moved quickly, but are working with an area company to ensure quality and also boosting our regional economy. These shirts will be one hundred percent locally sourced. And so will the items provided at the game."
Season ticket holders in the Section 40 will receive a complementary "40 for 40" t-shirt for each seat they have purchased with a special collar and sleeve exclusive to their status. A regular edition of "40 for 40" shirts will be available for purchase at the stadium only, making it an exclusive for fans who come out to see Rudge play.
