2057.01 Nine Celebrate Incredible Rebound, 80-82 Record
Nine Celebrate Incredible Rebound, 80-82 Record
October 1, 2056
Yellow Springs, OH – The Yellow Springs Nine issued the following press release upon the completion of the season:
The management team of the Yellow Springs Nine wishes to congratulate the entire team on its 80-82 season. While falling just shy against last year's Frick League Champions to miss a winning record, the increase of 19 wins from 2055 to 2056 is a remarkable turnaround and deserves appropriate celebration and recognition.
Players form long-time nine stalwarts Dong-po Thum and Dave Lee to new fan favories like Burhan Tahir and Gerald Rogers all contributed to this effort. Additions such as Brody Picot and Arvin Duggan helped push the team in the right direction alongside young talents like Devayana Koganti and Cory McGuire. The Nine are ready to rejoin the rest of their Heartland peers in being the class of the entire BBA.
Owner Bo Jordan prepared these remarks:
"No one likes losing, especially me. These past few seasons have been rough on the fans, the players, and myself as well. I can't thank the fans enough for sticking with us, and I was pleased to see such a great increase in attendance this year. I am proud of what we've put together, and I cannot wait to see how 2057 shapes up, as we continue to add pieces to this team.
"At the same time, I'd like to recognize that while not all players have worked out here, like Eric Grant or Benjamin Broadbent every person who's ever put on a Nine jersey has done so with the intent to give it their all, and they have. Each and every one of them. The key has been finding the right players for the right roles, and to continue to do so. Ron used to talk about perpetual winning. We've gotten away from that. It's time to get back."
GM Rob McMonigal prepared these remarks:
"Like Bo, I want to win. The goal is always to win. Sometimes it doesn't work out the way you'd hoped. But even though we fell just short, I think our time is coming. Teams aren't going to circle us on the calendar and expect to win every series. They know we're going to fight them every game, every inning, every at bat. Every pitch. That's the culture of Yellow Springs. That's what our fans expect, and what our fans deserve. No quitting.
"I can't promise we'll win over 81 games next year. There's 15 other great teams in the Frick and the Heartland is nothing but the best in terms of General Managers and players. But I can guarantee we'll keep fighting until I can do the one thing this franchise hasn't been able to do yet – bring home a Brewster.
"Oh, and one last thing: Despite what certain people have written in the press, Bo has always had my back and even if we had lost 100 games again, I'd still be here. I know living well is the best revenge, but I'm going to take this opportunity to get this off my chest, once and for all. I work my ass off to make the Nine the best team it can be for the fans and now it's paying off.
"In other words: Suck it, Wardman!"

You should lose 100 games to prove them wrong!

Congrats and stuff, but a big reason for the 80 wins was because the team didn't want to finish below Louisville. That is all the motivation a team needs for success.

YS9 was a tough matchup all year for Des Moines. A 19 win improvement is an impressive feat.
In 2055, I didn’t worry about the matchup. But early on in 2056 I kept saying to myself, why are my series with YS9 so difficult? It obviously reflected in your record but I recognized it early on that this years team was different.

Thank you for the compliment! I worked really hard on putting last year's team together. I'm not as confident we can gain significantly this off-season though. Depends on players continuing to improve and what's out there on the market.Patrick M wrote: ↑Sat Nov 04, 2023 7:38 amYS9 was a tough matchup all year for Des Moines.
