Rookie Rocked In Trial Outings

May 14, 2048: Yellow Springs – It finally appears that fans and front office personnel are finally on the same page when it comes to 25-year-old hurler Iván Molina, both coming to the consensus that Molina needs to be placed as far from the starting rotation as it seems possible.

“Iván had a rocky outing,” manager Alberto Sánchez was quoted a few weeks back after Molina’s debut resulted in nine runs n one inning against Omaha. One may argue Molina’s second outing was a stark improvement (only six runs in less than three innings), but that’s a true Glass Half-full kind of argument, and by that point every true an had had enough.

Kal Freedman, leader of the radical fan group Bleed Nine Red made the general feeling clear. “If Molina sees another start, we might just make a bonfire of all our season tickets.”

As a result, Molina didn’t make one more start, he made two—the first being a seven-run, three inning shelling at Des Moines, the last being an almost respectable 3-runn performance in five and a third as the team beat the division leader of the weak sister Pacific Division 6-4.

Henson Announced

Fans were holding their breath and wondering if the management chain had lost their minds as they waited for the club to announce their rotation as the team went to Heartland rival Madison, but a state of euphoria broke out when Sánchez revealed that Molina would be moved to the bullpen and that lefty Josh Henson would be making tomorrow’s start.

“I’m open to doing whatever Alberto thinks will help us win,” Henson said when a reporter informed of the decision.”

Despite being described as “a guy with only two real pitches,” Henson has filled a swing role for most of his career, and had started 33 games previously. He’s 39-16 on his career, with 280 appearances.

Molina is expected to be retained on the club’s roster, but will see innings out of the bullpen.

[ Editor’s Update: Henson started against the Wolves, and went five strongish innings, giving up three runs and registering the victory as the team won by a score of 6-4. ]
