”I’ve Had Enough with the Nitpicking”

Nov 6, 2045: YELLOW SPRINGS – Hours after his team was unceremoniously dumped from what will now be the last Landis Series, YS9 manager Sam Brewington announced that he was taking a new role—that being “ex-Manager.”

“They (the front office) bitched about my using a sacrifice bunt, and they bitched about too many innings for the Gillstrom Rookie of the Year winner (Derrick Chaney), and they bitched about a lack of hit and runs. But no one talked about hitters who didn’t hit and others who turned over about a hundred double plays.”

The news can’t come as a great shock to fans and insiders alike, as the pair had been on opposite sides of a fairly significant divide all season. Still, it’s hard to imagine the team without Brewington at the helm.

“I don’t want anything to do with them,” Brewington said in that same interview. “I’m going into the locker room to thank the guys, then changing into my street clothes. That’ll be that.”

Successor Uncertain

Team insiders say that GM Ron Collins has a short list of possible backfills, and that the list might include both current pitching coach Alberto Sanchez and hitting coach, Hall of Famer Emilio Rodriguez, but that the issue with each of them is that they are both apparently Brewington allies, and are being tight-lipped about how they would handle the job.

The more things change, I guess, the more they stay the same.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
