Team Dumps More Future Spend While Chasing Pennant
August 24, 2045: YELLOW SPRINGS – In what appears to be the latest in a series of penny-pinching financial moves, the YS9 front office is reportedly in negotiations that would send veteran reliever Sergio Perez—along with some cash—to Twin Cities. Perez has been a consistent bullpen arm for the team since coming into the league in 2040, but had a rugged start to the season and spent much of the year in a well-advertised stint in Indianapolis. His return to the big league club resulted in a good outing against Madison.

Perez makes only $1.1M right now, and has two years of cost control left, but even the paltry $1.3M he’ll likely make in the arbitration process was deemed too extensive by Nine front office misers.
“We love Sergio,” said GM Ron Collins when asked about his contract earlier in the week, “but he’s got to understand that we live in a climate where that kind of money is hard to free up.”
If rumors are to be believed, the club will receive a pair of minor league players, one of whom is thought to be Loan Duval, a 20-year-old right handed relief pitcher that the Nine brass is said to be high on (though some suggest they are merely high no matter what). He posted a 4.48 ERA in the River Monster’s A-ball club in Billings after signing a $3.4M bonus to join that organization.
There is no information regarding who might be called up to replace Perez on the Nine roster, though some are suggesting that Jerry Bourque or Juan Pena could be given a cup of coffee. Others are suggesting that Al Colbert could be activated off the injured, though he has not yet been cleared by the medical staff.
