Brewington Caught Up?
August 23, 2045: YELLOW SPRINGS – District Attorney Chaz Bringahmin announced today the Yellow Spring Nine Assistant General Manager Alex Gonzalez is currently under investigation for conspiracy to unseat his boss. “Details are not yet clear, but our investigation has been on-going for some time,” Bringahmin said at a hastily assembled press conference that was made necessary by leaks in social media spheres that are suggesting that Gonzalez, who has been with the club for three seasons now, had met several times with feied manager Sam Brewington to discuss teaming up in an attempt to get owner Bo Jordan to fire long0time GM Ron Collins.
“Collins hasn’t won squat,” said one fan. “If I were Bo-Jo, he’d be gone anyway.”
Other conversation suggests that with both Brewington and Gonzalez serving the end of their contracts, and with Collins avoiding public statements that would suggest they would be brought back, that the two decided now was the time to go to the mat. Gonzalez had made it clear he was interested in the top spot in an interview with Bats and Balls Gazette reporter Gayle Combs last month. Brewington has routinely shrugged off questions about his interest in managing past the fall, and at 66 was reported to be considering retirement anyway.
Gonzalez was unable to be found to comment on the situation, but we can report that when we arrived at his apartment in an attempt to interview him, we found his computer vision system still on, and the window to his back door open. A half-eaten sandwich sat on the coffee table.
“Leave me out of this,” was Brewington’s only statement as the team prepared for their game with the Chicago Black Sox—which was eventually won by a score of 5-4.
The issue extends the string of unfortunate hires the club has made for the assistant role, each having ended in some odd or extenuating circumstance. “I had high hopes for Alex,” Collins said in an off-the-cuff comment as he stepped into his transport on the way to Utopia Field.
DA Bringahmin said she expected the investigation to be short, and hopefully complete by the end of the season.
