All-Star Looks For Second Base Zimmer?
With players arriving at Fools Gulch for Spring Training, no one seems to look more fit or invigorated than last year’s Zimmer and Puckett Award-winning third baseman Dong-po Thum. Of course, however, it’s seemed clear in his early work outs that his ears are as good as his bat, and that he’d heard rumor that he’d be switched to second base this season.
“The guy looks great at the pivot,” said teammate and Zimmer award winning Luis Pena. “He told me he’d been working on it all off-season, and it really shows.”
Scouts were just as effusive, some even nothing that the team had updated it’s scouting scores to show his ability to work the pivot and turn double plays had improved from the “7” range to the “8.”
When asked about it, Thum just flashed that bright smile of his and said “how high does that chart go?”
Then he turned and ran out onto the field to take grounders.
