YS9 Signs Two IFA
After getting egg on its face by spending $51m (after tax) on a flameout 16 year old, the Yellow Springs front office, now shackled by the draconian anti-capitalistic rules of the league, were forced to refrain from throwing big money at even more young kids this year. That is, unless you think $80K is not a lot of money.
The club announced today that their scouting and recruiting office has convinced two young players to accept contracts to join their now-burgeoning International Complex.
Perhaps the most interesting was Puerto Rican outfielder Luis Martinez, a 6’2”, 185 pound all-purpose athlete who has played center field for most of his youthful career, but likely projects to slide over to left field. Scouts liked his command of the strike zone and his ability to get his bat on pitchers other folks couldn’t touch. As with other young hitters of the type, though, the big question is whether his decision spectrum at the plate will ever develop to the point where he won’t swing at anything the pitcher throws.
“They say you don’t walk off the island,” one scout said. “But sometimes it’s good to walk to first base.”
Regardless, scouts liked Martinez’s personality, and noted that he’s often found at the park playing well into the gloaming dark of the evening. “He loves to play baseball,” the team’s report reads. “And that means a lot.”
The team also added Canadian first baseman Tim Paddock, who teammates at the complex immediately nicknamed “Horton’s.” AT 6’4”, 205 pounds, Paddock has the physical gifts to become a star. Scouts say his footwork around first base is already solid, and he shows decent range “for a guy who is otherwise basically big and slow.
“Needs work, but has time to get better,” read the not-so-glowing report.
Each of the pair was signed for $80K, and will report to the complex immediately.
