9-News: 40.079 – Nine Drop Game Two
Thum Playoff Cycle Wasted
If someone told the bookies that Dong-po Thum would hit for the cycle, that the 1-through-3 hitters would be on base 10 of 15 plate appearances, and that Ernesto Ramos would give up only 1 run against the Louisville Sluggers, they’d probably drop the line. Unfortunately for Nine faithful, the Slovenly Sluggers used newly activated reliever Timofeo Bakitski as a personal launching pad, and took game three by a score of 11-5.
“To be honest, everyone but Timo was pretty sharp,” said manager Bill Inkster. “But sometimes the world works against you.” Thum singled in the first inning, homered in the second, tripled in the fourth, and doubled in the eighth. (would have been better if that double was a homer, said anOmaha fan). It didn’t help, though, that Thum, a Zimmer glove third baseman booted the third out in the 5th inning, allowing 6 unearned runs.
Or that the rest of the bullpen allowed three more runs.
That’s baseball.
Especially for Yellow Springs fans in October.
