Normal Oddities Abound as Nine Nosedive to Nowhere

If someone told the bookies that Carlos Valle was on the hill, and that every player in the Yellow Springs lineup would get at least one hit, and that the bullpen was slated to throw three scoreless innings at the Louisville Sluggers, they’d probably drop the line. Unfortunately for Nine faithful, the Slovenly Sluggers used Valle as their errand boy, drilling a pair of homers and managing 5 runs (4 earned) against the generally superb front liner.

“To be honest, he was pretty sharp,” said manager Bill Inkster. “But sometimes the world groups against you.” Valle struck out 9 Sluggers, walking none. Including the homers, he gave up only six hits in his six innings—unfortunately, they all happened together. It didn’t help when second baseman Juan Lopez booted a ball in the second inning in front of Juan Medrano’s homer.

That’s baseball.

Especially for Yellow Springs fans in October.
