9-News: 39.050 – Medical Services Contract Extended

Despite some fans being upset about how injuries to Jose Chavez and Mauro Saucedo have been handled, the Yellow Springs Nine front office announced today that the team has extended its agreement with the Carmona Medical Collective for an additional four seasons. The Collective, headed by world-renowned physician Julian Carmona, has been providing services to the team for the past four seasons, having been hired to some acclaim back in 2035.

On the whole, the team’s performance on the trainer’s table has probably been better than most—though whether that’s due to the collective’s work or not is a matter for some debate. The Nine have consistently fielded one of the youngest teams in the league during Carmona’s tenure, and the fact stands that both Chavez and Saucedo had tendon injuries that the staff suggested be given rest to enable recovery only to have both wind up regressing and eventually needing surgery.

“The team might have cost Chavez his career in the BBA,” one fan said. “He should be ashamed.”

PARTNERSHIP IMPROVED HEALTH ACROSS OHIO

True to its word, though, it should be said that the arrangement has resulted in several positive actions happening in and around the city of Yellow Springs, including the opening of free service locations and 24-hour phone clinics. A statement from Carmona suggested that the extension will allow the collective to bring in advanced specialists that will improve the environment for local children.

“We love helping the children of the world,” said assistant GM Fred Morrison at a mid-afternoon press conference in which he appeared disheveled and was wearing clothes similar to those he wore to last night’s briefings on two deals the team had made. “The world should always be about saving children, no matter whose they are,” Morrison added before stepping away and leaving a myriad of questions in his wake.

RODRIGUEZ INJURY TO BE MONITORED

News of the extension comes on the heals of word that supplemental first round pick, catcher Jesus Rodriguez had fractured his thumb in a single-A game, and would be brought from Fort Worth to Yellow Springs for Carmona’s staff to review the recovery process.

“We’ll use the time to have Jesus come to the clubhouse and meet the guys,” manager Bill Inkster said. “Silver lining meets dark cloud.”
