9-News: 38.103 – YS9 System Goes to the Post Season

Post by RonCo » Sat May 18, 2019 1:04 pm

All right, let’s face it, that headline isn’t quite right. The Guantanamo Breakers sit at 35-38 with three games to play, so stand a chance of finishing at .500, but at 12 games out of their division lead, are not going to the playoffs. Every other team in the system, however, are in.

AAA Indianapolis (70-65) won their division by two games, and will face Brooklyn’s San Francisco Doves in the Brewster Invitational round of the playoffs, which is a best of three series. The club features, of course, the club's top prospect in Dong-po Thum but also has a bevy of other hitters that led their league in batting average and fewest strikeouts. Its pitching staff is weighted toward the bullpen (4th best bullpen ERA) and strikeouts (3rd best in the league).

AA Santa Clara (81-50) won their division by 8 games, and features a balance of offense and arms, finishing second in their league in runs scored and third in fewest runs allowed. Key prospects on the club include Jose Camacho, Miguel Angel Perales, , and [url=https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 29642.html]In-sung Yi. The Spartans have already defeated Jacskonville’s Trois-Rivers Salmon Kings in the Interior Series, but lost the first game of the Series of Accountability to California’s Compton Crush by a score of 7-6. Stay tuned, however. It ain’t over till it’s over.

A-Fort Worth (79-53) were in the hunt for their division title until the end, but wound up nabbing a Wild Card slot. They did fall in two games to Calgary’s Quebec Lumberjacks, but it was a solid season for many young Yellow Springs prospects including Robert Chenoweth, Luis Pena, and Michel Noel. The Stampede’s bats bludgeoned opposing pitchers all season while leading the league in OPS (2nd in homers).

R- Alamogordo (40-24) won their division behind several exciting prospects, including catchers Jesus Rodriguez and Kazuki Saito. The core of the team, however, is a staff of young pitchers that led the league in nearly every stat worth keeping, and features young Carlos Pineda and Josh Henson (who threw a perfect game earlier in the season. The team defeated Vancouver's Laramie Wranglers in the Manager's Cup, and will now take on Seattle's Ogden Thunder Ducks in the Gold Medallion Showdown.

“We’re obviously excited by our farm system,” said GM Ron Collins. “We think our kids are as good as they come, and think you can look forward to seeing a lot of them in Yellow Springs uniforms in the near future. It's fantastic that so many of them are getting the feeling of what it's like to be in the post season.”
