Nine Hire Unknown For Top Spot

After a fervent search for a replacement for manager Bret Richards, the Yellow Springs Nine has announced that they’ve hired youthful Irishman Bill Inkster for the position. The news was immediately reacted to shock and uncertainty, as Inkster’s name was not one of them that was on the list of candidates. A quick google brought up only a brief 24-game stint managing an FPL team back in 2031, a stint in which he went 11-13 and did not qualify for the post season.

“I know a lot of people aren’t going to recognize Bill,” GM Ron Collins said at a hastily arranged press conference at the local Daily 8 Hotel, but I’m convinced he’s our guy.

Inkster took to the stand and began to speak, discussing his hometown of Waterford, Ireland and how it reminded him a lot of Yellow Springs but without the bagpipes, “something I intend to change,” he added. He said he loves the sacrifice bunt, but that he’s pretty certain the GM wasn’t a fan, so he’d only be calling for bunts in games where the Royal Family wasn’t attending. Needless to say, fans are … um … curious.

Inkster’s contract calls for him to make $488K pre season, a far sight less than the $1.6M that Richards was asking for and got from Huntsville. AT 41 years of age, he’s the youngest manager in the majors with the exception of Louisville’s newly-names Benjamin O’Rorke, who is 40. He’s the first manager that the team has hired without any real experience since Angel Gomez ran the team in 2027, and we all know how that worked out. Still, the team seems happy enough for now.

“I talked to him yesterday,” said Lucas McNeill, the team’s veteran superstar. “He seemed like a good enough guy to play for, but I’m like about everyone else. I don’t really know much about him.”

“I know it’s a big job,” Inkster said. “But I like big jobs. Have you taken a gander at my rhinoplasty?”
