While most of the team’s fans are interested in hearing news about a major pitching signing, the team appears to be focused on more meat and potatoes kinds of moves, the latest being an agreement with LHB DH George “Beast of Burden” Robertson, who the team has signed to a three-season pact worth $3M per year. “We just took our overall projections for his three seasons and averaged them out,” said assistant GM Phillip Watson. “That gets George a little extra spending cash this year, but lets use keep our payroll from bloating up in year three.”

“I like to win,” said Robertson when asked why he accepted the arrangement. “I got my money, and the team gets more flexibility to add another guy. Seems like a win-win to me.”

The deal begins in 2039, meaning that Robertson will play the rest of this season on the last of his $500K min-salary deal.

Robertson will turn 23 before the next season begins, but has been with the club for just over two seasons. He’s clubbed 70 doubles, and 62 homers in that span, posting a .279/.363/.527 slash. The team is most excited about the fact that his 2.0 WAR in 2036 jumped to 2.7 in only a few more plate appearances. “We see George as a guy who could be at the top of a lot of our franchise lists before his career is over,” Watson added. “He’s a durable guy, and still a kid, really. He’s going to get better and better. So it’s great for our fans to know he’ll be the organization for four seasons.”

Sam Brewington, the team’s hitting coach, was excited to hear of the deal. “I like working with George. He’s one of those guys who soaks everything in and can take changes from the cage out into the game. He’s also not one to let a slump get him down. He’s just one of my favorites.”

In the meantime, fans are still looking for a pitcher.

What was he asking for? I ask because I'm having trouble getting the guys who want one year to take more than one year, or the guys who ask for 6 year deals they aren't allowed to have take fewer. And 95% of the time, it's one those two.

I was able to do this with guys like Deortez and Thad Meyer in the past.... But trying this year with guys like Viotto Stromberg and Bartolo Ortiz....no dice.

I've had guys go in all directions. In this case he was asking for 1 year at a time, but I basically met his overall projections--"overpaying" that projection quite a bit in year one, but getting a 40% or so discount on year three. I note he's a low greed guy (one who I don't think I've touched in that category with PPT), so maybe that has something to do with it.

As I understand it, these algorithms are actually pretty complex in theory, anyway. So it's probably not a surprise that they work differently with different players. I admit it's both frustrating and fun at the same time. I've lost more than I've gained. :)
