For the third time in five outings, rookie pitcher Ernesto Ramos left the mound without allowing a run, beating Seattle 7-0. The victory was his third in a row, and fourth in five outings, raising his record to 6-4 and dropping his ERA to 4.29. Ramos struck out 9 storm hitters in six innings, throwing 85 pitches while allowing only three hits and a walk.

“Ernesto was the guy we wanted him to be today,” said broadcaster Melissa Lester.

Offensively he was supported by another barrage of extra-base hits, in this case six doubles and home runs off the bats of Rob Thomas and Andy McKinney, McKinney enjoying a massive two homer day that included one of those doubles. “I couldn’t get him out,” said Storm pitcher Luther Summers.

McKinney is having a breakout rookie season that’s starting to draw notice. While it’s too early to start handing out hardware, His 15 homers and 28 doubles put him directly in the conversation for rookie of the year. He’s also a big reason why the club’s bats have generated more extra-base hits than any other team in the Frick League.

“I’m having fun on the field,” McKinney said, “And its fun to be winning some games now.”

Tristan Alfama again went three scoreless to register a save, his third on the year.

The team plays Seattle again tomorrow, it’s third of a four game set before the All-Star break.
